Tom Brightman, Land Steward at
Longwood Gardens, will be telling his story on how the garden he and his wife
tend in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania has changed over time. Using slides from
his home garden, he will guide the audience in developing a vision for their
garden that:
- is
personal, pleasing and special,
- attracts
interesting wildlife like songbirds and butterflies, and
- is
attractive to neighbors and guests
Participants will also learn about plant selection,
management issues in the garden, and related topics.The lecture will be held on
Tuesday, March 9, from 7 to 9 p.m., at
the Hockessin Public Library, 1023 Valley Road, Hockessin, Delaware.Tom
earned college and graduate degrees from the University of Pennsylvania in
American Civilization, Legal Studies, and Environmental Studies. As the Land
Steward at Longwood Gardens, he is responsible for the health and care of Longwood’s
700 acres of land. He is also involved in several of Longwood's sustainability initiatives—efforts to
meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future
generations to meet their needs.Tom was previously the Easement Manager for the
Brandywine Conservancy's Environmental Management Center.Registration is required as seating is
